Travel day from Tama city to Toride city

Date of activity: August 4^th

Time has passed so fast. Today is the travel day.

Thanks to the Tama LOC, host families, students and people who helped our program, we made a really great relationship. The final day is always sad for me, because our host families were really kind and helpful, so it feels like they have become our second family.

Thank you Tama, I will be back near future!!!!!!

After Tama, we went to a huge outlet for lunch and free time. It was really hot today, so entering shops with air conditioners made me happy. Even so I spent most of the time outside.

Finally the bus arrived at Toride City. This is the second time to visit this city, and last time was 4 years ago. However the LOC still remembered me, yeah!!!!!! I was a little bit tired, but they swept away my tiredness in a matter of seconds.

In the host family matching I was matched with a sweet grandmother who is 83years old. She is really energetic and talked about a lot of things so far, such as world war, her physical condition, family, Japan, etc.

Starting today, I’m going to live with her. I’m so excited to spend time with her. It is gonna be fun!!!!!

決して忘れない経験

2011年6月6日～12日、豊田市で私はとても素晴らしい道山ファミリーのお宅でホームスティしました。最初の日、ホストマザーとホストシスターが『紙芝居』が展示されている博物館へ連れて行ってくれました。そこには、たくさんの紙芝居道具があり、そのように紙芝居を使うのか説明もありました。『紙芝居』とは物語を伝えるものです。四角い箱の真ん中にドアがあり、そこから絵やお話が書いた紙を順番にめくっていきます。この経験ができて、とてもラッキーでした。私は子供たちの前で紙芝居を読みました。子供たちは大喜びで私はとても嬉しかったです。私のホストマザーは紙芝居の先生なので、私にたくさん技術を教えてくれました。紙芝居についてたくさん学ぶことができました。

紙芝居をした後、私たちは豊田市美術館へ行きました。そこにはオランダの有名な画家、ヨハネス　フェルメールの作品がありました。彼の作品はエレガントで現実性がありみあす。私たちは全ての作品を楽しみ、感銘を受けながら素敵な午後の時間を過ごしました。

8月8日、ホストシスターが私を長島スパーランドに連れて行ってくれました。日本で最長のジェットコースターがある遊園地です。私とホストシスターはジェットコースターに乗るのが大好きです！私たちは可能な限り多くのジェットーコースタに乗りました。全部で7種類のジェットコースターがあり、最も高いジェットコースターには2回も乗りました。日本でこんな経験ができるなんて、とても興奮しました。驚きもいっぱいあり、私たちは本当に楽しい時間をそこで過ごしました。

Session 2

Kinoshita family from Arao city, Kumamoto:
“It has been a hard time for Japan this year.
We are thinking what we can do in our everyday life for Tohoku which is the stricken area. Fortunately my hometown is more than 1,000 km away from Tohoku and there is no influence of the earthquake, tidal wave and damage of the nuclear power plant at all. And thankfully we are working, studying, hanging around with friends and living our normal life.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone from WCI and listening to the diverse stories from different countries this year again. I believe that small city like Arao will give you an opportunity to feel familiar and understand the depth of our culture.”

大村からこんにちは

大村は青い空、梅の木、花々に囲まれて本当に美しいところでした。大村は美しい自然に包まれたところではなく、そこにいる人々の優しさや温かい笑顔、それに本当の子どものように受け入れてくださったホストファミと出会えたところでした。

このツワーの訪問地である大村で私は、忘れることの出来ないヤマモト・ホストファミリーにお世話になりました。ヤマモト一家は、初めての外国人の受け入れにも関わらず、私の訪問を心から歓迎してくれました。ヤマモト一家に到着した日から、私は家族を「お父さん」、「お母さん」と呼び、皆も受け入れてくれました。

初日の夜、私は歯ブラシをケースの中にしまって洗面台においたら、次の日の朝に、家族の歯ブラシたての中に私の歯ブラシも一緒に置いてありました。それを見た時には、とっても嬉しかったです。毎日、家族の皆と一緒に話しをしたり、ジョークをいったり、絵を描いたりした思いでは本当に楽しかったです。

大村を出発する前日には、ありがとうイベントがありました。ステージの上でのヤマモト一家へのインタビューの後、私がホストファミリーへの感謝の気持ちをこめてスピーチをしました。冷静を装おうとしましたが、嬉しさがこみ上げてきて、頬から涙がこぼれてきました。ありがとうイベントの後には、サプライズのイベントとして、私のホストマザーへの誕生日もしました。お母さんをステージの上へ連れてきて、皆で誕生日の歌を歌いました。ここでも、感極まって涙が自然とわいてきました。お母さんの大好きなオレンジ色の花、ユリの花、私の好きなカーネーションをプレゼントしました。本当の家族の一員のように迎え入れてくれたヤマモト一家、本当にありがとうございました。一緒に過ごした楽しい日々の思い出を決して忘れません。また、会いましょう。

ホストファミリー・デーのいろいろ

ホストファミリー・デーは、それぞれのホストファミリーごとに味があって面白いものです。大抵の場合にはホストファミリーは、城や遊園地などなどその地域の有名な場所などに僕らを連れて行ってくれたりと豪華な企画をしてくれます。そして、僕は時々そういう時間だではなくて、ホストファミリーとのんびりとした時間を過ごすこともいいなぁと思っています。それは、ホストファミリーと家で、ビデオゲームを一緒にしたり、映画を見たり、散歩をしたり・・・そういう時間の過ごし方もいろいろな話ができて楽しい時間です。

これまで僕は、ワールド・キャンパス・インターナショナルで15家族以上のホストファミリーの家にお世話になりましたが、ホストファミリー・デーの過ごし方は本当に多種多様であることに驚いています。豊田市での滞在中は、ホスト・マザーのマサコさんが面白い体験をさせてくれました。彼女は北京語を勉強しているのですが、この日は僕も彼女と一緒に北京語のクラスに出席しました。実は僕は中国系アメリカ人で、僕自身も北京語を勉強しているのですが、日本でそれもすべて日本語で教えられる北京語のクラスを体験するとは思いもしませんでした。その光景は、はじめての体験でしたのでとても不思議に思えましたが、思い出に残るエピソードになりました。それぞれのホストファミリーが独自に企画してくれるホストファミリー・デーは、とってもおもしろいです。
