Hello!

My name is Torunn, but you can call me Tori. I come from the exotic land of Norway. Currently, I am a law student at the University of Oslo.

During this year’s World Campus – Japan program I am going to be working as a counselor, my job being to support and guide the participants through the adventure that is World Campus. Also, I will assist the rest of the staff with their tasks.

I am very fond of languages, Japanese in particular. Even though my formal education in Japanese is very limited, I try to make the most of every chance to learn more. Besides, the distinctive hard-working attitude of the Japanese people continues to awe and inspire me. That is why I decided to visit Japan two years ago. It is also my reason for returning the following year, but then as a participant in the World Campus – Japan program. Although my expectations were high, as I am sure yours are, my experiences surpassed them. World Campus did indeed show me Japan from an insider’s perspective. But I did not expect I would become a part of the Japanese community, and the community a part of me.

Needless to say, I firmly believe that we will have an amazing time together in Japan this summer, and I am truly grateful for this opportunity to share memories and experiences that may inspire you to be a global citizen.

Hey!

I am Jurriën, one of the program counselors of this year World Campus – Japan program. I live in Leiden, one of the most beautiful cities of the Netherlands. The problem is… there are so many beautiful cities, mountains, forests, seas, animals, people and cultures all over the world. For me Japan is one of the places that has a lot of these things and, from my own experiences as a participant last year, I know that world campus is a program that is guaranteed to show me Japan in most of it’s beauty.

While it’s true that I’m living in Leiden right now, it is not the place I’m originally from. I actually came from Noord-Brabant, a province in the south but came to live in Leiden for study purposes. The oldest University in the Netherlands is Leiden University and It’s the only University in The Netherlands where you can do “Japan studies (日本学)”. I am currently in our second year studying Japanese and I’m still enjoying it! I’m still not quite sure why I came to study it, for my entire youth I had been more interested in science, and pretty much only took science classes in high school, but It’s probably because I got to hear, read and see a lot about Japan and got to love the country so much.

I must say that I was really lucky to be born to parents who really love traveling themselves. Because of this I have traveled to many countries and have seen a lot of places and met a lot of people from other cultures throughout the world. Meeting people and learning about our differences and similarities. This is what I’ve always liked and it is one more reason why world campus is perfect for me. Ok guys, enough about me… It’s time I meet you all this summer and learn about your cultures and what you like about Japan!

Hello,

my Name is Paulina Meza and I was born in Michigan, from Mexican parents, and I have lived all my life with my family in the hot northern part of México, in the cities of Chihuahua and Torreón.

I am currently in my 6th semester of Industrial Design, studying at the Universidad Iberoamericana Laguna. I loved my multicultural and traveling experiences and I have worked as an English teacher in Torreón. I am a very creative person, very sensible to others and eager to learn and to teach. I have won several local singing contests and enjoy art in almost every expression.

I look forward to serving as one of the counselors and meeting many participants from around the world in the upcoming World Campus Japan program.

Hi everyone!

My name is Iris Spruit and I’m from the Netherlands. I will be a program counselor this summer and I’m very excited to be part of the staff this year. We will do our best to make your experience in this year’s world campus unforgettable.

I have a great interest in Japan and its culture and that is why I’m studying Japanese at Leiden University. In addition, I started studying psychology this year, just because I am interested in people and how the mind works. I really enjoy my studies and my life in Leiden.

It is a huge opportunity for me to be a program counselor this year. It helps me with my study and since last year was so much fun and a brilliant experience I decided to return back to the program. I’m really excited to get to know new people and to learn more about different cultures. It’s going to be a great summer.

Hey everyone!

My name is Daniel, or Dan to some of my foreign friends (feel free to call me by that name). I’m from the Netherlands and I’ll be joining World Campus International as one of the counselors. I’m currently a Japanese major student at the university of Leiden, so I’m really thrilled to go to Japan and experience all the aspects of World Campus – Japan program. I’ve been a participant last year, so I know it is going to be amazing again!

I see myself as a positive and outgoing person and I’m eager to meet new people. I’m really looking forward to this year’s program and I would like to get to know more people from all over the world and learn about many different cultures.
